Someday

Someday you’ll be the first love I had
We’ll make memories in the snow
Sit by the fire drinking hot cocoa
We’ll watch old movies in the dark
Laugh and talk all night

We’ll take long walks on the beach
Holding hands , skipping stones
We’ll drive out to the farthest mountain
Just to sit and watch the stars

I’ll wear that old sweatshirt of yours
Just for the sweet, sweet smell of you
We’ll make pancakes in the morning
Read poetry to each other all afternoon

We’ll fight about the toothpaste
We’ll laugh and cry
Make love under the stars
Someday you’ll be the first love I had

When it all ends
We’ll have the memories
I’ll still have that sweatshirt
And you’ll still have the poetry
We’ll never be over, cause
You’ll always be the first love I had

Oh, my gosh, I'm fifteen again and Mike is walking me home from school. We're holding hands, talking about being old and not remembering each other. I do remember him forty plus years later.

If a poem can evoke that feeling, it's a keeper! Loved reading this!

This poem reminds me of my first apartment with my husband, eating frozen pizzas in our galley kitchen. Somehow, it was romantic. Like your pancakes. Very nice!
